Default Client wants social media updates - need help in pricing
I have a live one on the line! Woohoo!

The client is requesting video uploads to YouTube and updates to social media networks.

I'm confident for the most part (but a bit nervous) of my capability to do this.

Can anyone give me an idea of how much to charge for this service? I do know that I can update many of his social venues with an integrated service. I intend to ask him about what social networks he is interested in and determine if this is a single entry situation or a combined effort. He has about 5 businesses, somewhat related to each other. I have never uploaded a video, and I will let him know that, but it cant' be that hard can it?

Any advice, suggestions? Have to respond tomorrow!

Congratulations on your potential client!

While we cannot post rates on the Forums, I would suggest that you charge him an hourly rate. To really effectively manage and monitor his social media networks, it does take some time. Yes, there is some integration you can do, but if you mass post the same stuff across networks, then you or the client aren't really getting the true benefits of participating in social media.

Using a social media platform like YouTube is about more than just uploading videos. You are correct, uploading videos isn't that hard, but you also need to set up his Channel and personalize or brand it (if he doesn't already have one), help his videos become visible so people view it and ideally, get people to subscribe to his channel.

I would charge him you usual hourly rate but let him know how much experience working with the different social networking platforms and what he can expect. Ask him what his goals or outcomes are for participating in social media so that you can put together a strategy for helping him reach those goals.

Post back and let us know how it goes or if you have any other questions.

Thanks Kimberly! I was considering a flat rate for a certain number of updates. You've changed my mind.

I agree with Kimberly on charging your current hourly rate. If you decide that you really like doing this sort of thing and want to add it permanently to your service offerings you could always do research on what other VAs are charging for similar services (I'm a huge website Peeping Tom...lol) and add it to your website at that time.

I just responded to the client quoting my down to the bare bones rate because of my inexperience and a 60 day pay as you go introductory period. I'd like the opportunity because it gives me real experience in the area rather than just being familiar with but not actually doing it. It's not that I expect my client to pay for my education either. I know the difference of actual work vs getting to know the system. All explained in my email. Thanks for everyone's advice. I'll let you know how it goes.
