What is a VA?
Good morning,
I've been working on my own VA definition (using my own verbiage) and would really like to have some input. Does it sound ok? Is it clear enough? Is there anything I'm leaving out? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
TIA
As defined by Wikipedia.com, “a Virtual Assistant (or simply VA), is an independent contractor providing administrative, technical, or sometimes creative assistance to clients…” However, there is much more to being a VA than this. VAs are entrepreneurs, just like the majority of their clients, who work from their own offices, use their own equipment and supplies, take advantage of current and emerging technological advances, and capitalize on their very individual skills and strengths to offer a level of expertise and professionalism to B2B partnerships rather than employer/employee relationships.

Re: What is a VA?
I like what you've put together and like you, I've been working on putting together my own definition rather than borrowing one. The only recommendation I have is for your last sentence and break it into two or possibly three different sentences as it is pretty long as one sentence. For instance, you might want to the first sentence after the word "clients." And then start the next one with 'Virtual Assistants work from their own..." and go through "advances." Then start the next sentence with "As a VA, I am adept at capitalizing on my individual skills and... " I think that might be a cleaner way of writing it plus you get the words "Virtual Assistant/VA" in your text two more times, which from what I understand could be helpful for SEO.
You've put together some other great keywords as well in there. Great job!

Re: What is a VA?
That is a great start! I love it! I've mentioned this before in other posts, but I truly believe that is VA is much more than being an administrative assistant, otherwise our industry should be termed a VAA or virtual administrative assistant. With that said, I agree with Wiki that we provide, "administrative, technical and sometimes creative assistance..." This truly embraces all that we do and can do. Adding the fact that we are entrepreneurs etc., really puts on the level of professionalism that we VAs deserve!

Thanks, that's what I was thinking also. I also thought maybe I should put something about communications in there (email, FTP, overnight mail etc) but I kind of think that should go without saying since "virtual" and "technology" should imply that.

Re: What is a VA?
I've rewritten my definition. How does it sound? I used some of your words, pdxblueskie, I hop that's ok.
As defined by Wikipedia.com, “a Virtual Assistant (or simply VA), is an independent contractor providing administrative, technical, or sometimes creative assistance to clients…” However, VAs are much more than this. VAs are entrepreneurs, just like the majority of their clients. Virtual Assistants work from their own offices, use their own equipment and supplies, and utilize current and emerging technological advances to communicate with clients and provide top-notch end products and services. As VAs, we are adept at capitalizing on our very individual skills and strengths, offering a high level of expertise and professionalism to all of our clients. Finally, Virtual Assistants dedicate themselves to developing strong B2B partnerships rather than the more traditional employer/employee relationships.

Re: What is a VA?
What a great way to utilize the standard Wikipedia entry and make it your own! I applaud you for taking the time and making the effort to write your own definition. It lends itself to your credit and will be a great addition to your site/marketing materials.

I think it sounds great! And no, I certainly don't mind. I'm glad you found my suggestions helpful.
