My understanding of networking is being able to actively meet people and create lasting business relationships. Then you have social networking which includes meeting people & creating relationships online.

I know there are a few threads on here about networking - maybe have a look at those and see if they are helpful.

Networking is the art of building contacts, relationships and alliances. There are many avenues of networking including face to face, social media, direct marketing, etc.

If you are looking at job specs that are marketing in nature or heavy on social media, the client probably wants to know how you market to make yourself successful so that they can see how you will fit into their scheme.

Although networking can also refer to computers as well. Maybe give us an example so that we can give you more specific advice.

Best to you!

Thanks for your reply!!

Well they were jobs in fashion, but they required be to have contacts and something about networking - I really cannot remember now as it was a while ago.

So what about if you have no previous networking experience - how would I go about building this?

Thanks,

Go to local networking groups (try www.meetup.com), check out your local Better Business Bureau for a local group, etc. If you are not comfortable with publicly speaking with strangers, check out your local toastmasters group. Spend time online on various social networking sites (twitter, facebook, etc.).

Basically, every time you interact with someone else, you are networking!

Contact the local Chamber of Commerce and Business Link to see what events they have coming up - they have free ones once in a while...

There will also be some local groups, I did a quick Google (Bracknell Networking) for you and found this one
http://www.nrg-networks.com/index.php?page=19 as an example but there will be others as well.

Any group should be happy for you to go and try an event without expecting you to join straight away, so go to a few and see which ones feel right...

Good Luck
