Default What do you think of this event?

I hope you can see the flyer that way - if not maybe at http://www.afamr.org/index.html

It is an event that they are having at our convention center next week. It's $20.00 to get in, which I could probably get in for free if I really wanted to - but do you all think it would be worth it as a networking event? I would have to get a babysitter as I have a 9 month old so that's my biggest reason for not just going anyway.

What do you all think?

I think any networking event is worth it, esp if it is in your niche. You never know who you will meet at any given time, Sometimes the unexpected happens, probably more than we may realize. But on the other hand, I know how you feel, I get like this sometimes. That is why networking is one of my 2010 resolutions. I really have to motivate myself sometimes to leave the house. There are so many reasons to stay in my office but I know I miss out by not getting to meet the local business people. So my vote is YES, go!
And if you do, let us know how it turned out...

I would say if the event is in an industry that appeals to you and you have the time and ability to go then go for it!
The $20 is a tax writeoff anyway

I would say your time is certainly the more valuable asset (more valuable than the $20), so make sure that you know "why" you are going to the event. Is it to meet potential clients or to make connections for a client, or to meet potential resources, etc.? Go with a goal in mind and if it's a place where those types of people show up, it's probably worth it!

I've done a lot of in-person networking and it helps to have a goal in mind.

Take care!

I originally thought that it was more like a convention with booths and since it was sponsored by the Illinois Realtor Assoc. I figured it would be a good networking event to find clients but I found out it is more like a "concert" so I don't think it would be beneficial for networking - They are taking donations for door prizes though and I have put in a request to donate something - I was thinking a couple free hours of Virtual Assistance?

What do you all think?
