Default Networking Event
Hi Everyone,

Not sure if this is where this should go, I am planning on attending/participating in my first networking event. There will be business owners setting up their own tables discussing their services. Since this will be my first time, would like to be prepared, what should I have with me?

Thanks

Good luck!

Take LOTS of business cards, flyers/brochures, giveaways like pens, maybe a tabletop display so they can see you from afar!

Hope that helps!

Hi Michelle,

Tablecloth (solid color), brochures, biz cards, freebies (sticky notes - pre-printed w/your logo and pens), bowl of individually wrapped candy. We purchased a banner (6 ft. - horizontal) to display overhead (behind us).

Have a great time!

Michelle - When Kirby says take "LOTS" of business cards, whatever you think should be enough - double it. Just take all of them. Also, make sure you take a notebook, so you can write down anything that comes up in conversations - questions that you need to research, that sort of thing.

Michelle - great ideas from everyone and the link Eunice gave you has some great tips. Remember to stand - not sit - and smile, smile, smile. Engage those passing by with a hello or make eye contact to draw them to your table. You could also have people sign up for a free report or ebook to help you build a list of potential clients.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Hi Michelle, how did it go? I am responding to this a bit late, but I hope it all went well. One suggestion I'd have (perhaps for any future events) is that make sure to follow up with an email or a phone call with people who stopped by and gave you their contact info...
Same goes for "regular" networking events - I have a feeling that fewer and fewer people follow up...

I enjoyed the link that was posted by Eunice and I would like to add my two cents as well ~ take a camera (not a cell phone, if possible), have someone take pictures of you, your display, you interacting with other business owners that stop by your table for your portfolio
