Default Interested in knowing definitions of VA
I'm trying to write my "elevator" speech and am curious to know how you define VA and also what some of you say in your 30 - 60 second speeches.

It may depend on where you are too Carol. Here in Australia a PA or Personal Assistant is someone who does personal secretarial and admin work for a boss in the corporate world. So when I'm speaking to people (and because I still do that line of work) I tell people I'm like a PA only virtual. Prospective clients get that straight away.

Thanks Kathie.

It's interesting to know what titles the corporate world uses around the world.

Hi Carol, I wrote my own definition because I wanted it to resonate with my own personality, voice and perspective but there's a great entry at Wikipedia that includes two external links to items drafted by two members here at VAF:

Tess,

Just realized I hadn't responded to your info. Thanks. I'll check it out over the weekend. I agree that it has to be my own personality and wording.

I wrote my own definition, as well. When folks ask me what I do, I explain

"I help keep your accounting clean and tidy from my office, using today's technology to obtain the necessary documents from you."

This opens up the door to "well, how do you do that?"

Very good and creative ideas here. I can see that "keeping it simple" is probably the key.

I simply tell people that I am and administrative support consultant and I take care of business so you can do business.

I use administrative support consultant vs a virtual assistant or even online business manager because the term consultant resonates better with my target client which is higher end already successful and profitable business owners.
