I to have been having problems seamlessly describing what I do. Thanks Jason for some great ideas, I now know what I will be doing this weekend.

I've been working on this for over a year now (yea) and have gotten MUCH better at my 30 second speech. I haven't been using the word 'virtual' either because, even though most people are on the internet, those same folks arent real sure what that word means. I have been asked if my business was real.. so, now I say "I am an online admin assistant. You and I will work together as if we were in the same office but we will share information via the internet rather than walking it across the room." If they want more info I go into how working with me will save money and time, they arent required to give me a set amount of hours each week and they dont have to cover the taxes required with an employee.

I have found when I include THEM in the elevator speech, it makes them imagine us working together. Getting someone to imagine something is the first step to making it a reality.. I have found 6 clients in the past year and they all like to keep me busy, which is why I dont come here as often... I miss you guys!!

I recently joined a marketing group, i get to practice my speach once a week. it has really helped me get it just right. also i was told by a professional speaker when initiating a conversation with someone always ask them what they do first that way you can taylor your speach to there needs.

I love your idea Sheila, not only are you starting with the focus on them but you can continue focusing on them while you explain what you do. Now that's a suggestion I'm definitely going to use.
