Default Has Anyone Canvassed their city on foot?
Just wondering, it seems that in the city I live in, we have about 6 VA's and none of them seem to really be "working" it. Has anyone gone door to door? How has that gone for you and if you have done it, how do you effecively follow up? Thanks for all of the input I know I am about to receive because this forum is AWESOME. I appreciate you all so much.

Carol Anne,

I have not gone door to door however I have attended many networking functions and local workshops. This has gotten me exposure to the local market as well as met some of the local VAs, one who I collaborate with often.

With that said, most of my clients are not local. I now find many through referrals as well as RFP's. Our local market is a little "behind the times" when it comes to virtual working and how they can benefit but I do stay in front of them for when the time comes.

Nope, haven't done "door to door" but I've just this week joined my local Chamber of Commerce which I hope will lead to more local business.

Boulder is too big for 'door to door' (and I still work a 9-5) so I look for groups related to my target market. For instance there are monthly entrepreneur training sessions hosted by our local Chamber of Commerce at lunch times, as well as several other lunch or breakfast groups for various of my target markets so I try to attend at least one/month.

I have actually been out canvassing door to door in our downtown business district. I joined the downtown group, and now they advertise for next to nothing for me on FB, Twitter, and Newsletters to all the downtown businesses. Also joined two local networking groups. I'll let you know how it goes!!

I haven't but I have collected contact information about every business in my area via the yellow pages.

Carol Anne, it's great to hear that this was worthwhile for you! I think it takes a very special type of person to be able to walk into another business to sell yourself/your services.

I'm curious to know if any of the businesses you spoke with (when you were going door-to-door) contracted you or followed up?
