Hi Guys,

It's been a while since I posted and I'm not sure this is the right place.
Anyway, I was just wondering if any of you respond to help wanted ads in your local newspapers. It seems like a good place to start but I'm not sure.

If you have done this, how do you do it? Do you call and inquire or do you send a letter, etc.? What do you do if they ask for a resume?

I've got postcards ordered for my first mailings. Wish me luck on that! But, I am looking for other ways of landing new clients. The classifieds seem like a good resource for someone looking for local clients like I am but I'm not sure how to approach it.

Hi Norma,

I do respond to certain jobs that I feel can be done from home. I will send my resume along with a flier that has my information on it. I was successful for one of these with a law firm.

So, you can try it and you may find a company that can use your services.

I have never thought about responding to Help Wanted ads in the paper. That could very well be an untapped resource. These days every where someone has a need, you should make your services available.

I have done it also these past couple of weeks. I send them a cover letter and resume. The cover letter reads as a letter but it really is an advert of sorts taylored to that specific job. If nothing it will get my name out there and in front of them. Hopefully they store in the back of the head until perhaps they might want to give a VA a chance. Hope this helps some.

I think that tapping into this is a good idea. You never know. Sometimes employers decide to hire an off-shore employee instead of in house.

Hi Norma,
you don't have to go out to get the paper unless of course you just need to get out. Most papers have their classifieds on-line now. Many ads have e-mails that you can send it to. Or fax numbers.
You can do craigslist also but be careful of the scamers out there.

deh... I had forgotten about OregonLive for want ads. No rain for me today - YAY for you to remind me.

I had heard about the scammers on Craigslist, so I will be careful about that too.
