Default Business Card Exchange
2008 is here and I am finally going to take a shot at my first Business Card Exchange with the local county Chamber of Commerce later this month. Right now I am trying to script a way to explain Virtual Assistance in 30 seconds.

Any insight?

Lisa, sounds like a great plan and a fun event. Please be sure to let us know how it goes and your impressions of the meeting, etc.

As to scripting your intro speech...I found this really great pen-and-paper exercise that might help you, rather than copy/paste the whole article (which is quite long) I'll just post a link for you.

I ran across another article that puts it even more succintly with the question 'what's in it for me' - so rather than explaining that "you're a virtual assistant and this is what you do" you might want to come up with something that taps into and reflects the *needs* of your potential client.

AND - my own personal marketing 'guru' so to speak, has a great article on elevator speeches that I'd highly recommend as well.

Great resources, Tess!

I also want to add that The 2-Second Commute, which I recently read and reviewed for this forum , contains some great tips about elevator speeches. The authors advise VAs to identify who you can help and how. For instance, when someone asks you what you do, you can say something like, "I help small business owners grow their businesses by taking over non-core administrative tasks, which allows them to focus on revenue-generating activities." Then when they ask for more info, you can launch into a more detailed description of the services you provide and how you can help save them time or money. Just make sure that you make it all about what you can do for them, and you're sure to capture their attention! I can't wait to attend my first networking event so I can put these ideas to good use.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes!

Business card exchanges are very useful events. This was posted a while ago but I hope you found a good pitch.

I'm so glad these recommended articles are still available! An elevator pitch is something I need to work up soon, since I've already had people ask me what I can do for them, and it can be tricky to come up with a good response on the spot!
