I was at a networking event the other day in which the group was a more casual mix of entrepreneurs from my area. Don't get me wrong everyone is there to network and market but it the group is more conversation based on what would you do, or how would you handle this. One of the things we did this time was a "networking game" in which you partnered up with someone else, had 6 minutes to talk amongst yourself and then your partner had to do your 30 second pitch.

I chose to partner with a fellow who is a technical writer and newer to the group. We talked for the 6 minutes (3 about me, 3 about him) and delivered our pitches for each other. The great part was I now have some great idea to perfect my pitch based on other thoughts on what I do. And the best part was that our services complimented one another so our commercials/services were also mentioned by others as comments to follow-up from the activity.

I guess the short of what I am saying is if you are trying to perfect your pitch, find a friend or colleague who is not a VA, talk to them briefly about you and your services and see what they come up with. It will certainly guide you when others as "What exactly is a VA".

Thank you very much for sharing your great insight. Coming up with a 30 second pitch is often difficult. We all know what we do and why our target market should hire us. Yet, when we are put on the spot we may struggle to explain properly what it is we do.

Great exercise to practice to prevent one from looking like a deer caught in the headlights.

Excellent idea. As of right now my pitch is more than 30 seconds and not very polished. I have tried doing my 30 second pitch while looking in the mirror, but that does not work for me. I will ask a friend to be a soundboard for my pitch.

Excellent idea! I know the 30-second commercial will work well for me.

Record your pitch (as much as I hate hearing my recorded voice) it allows you to hear what others hear. It is better than hearing yourself in your head.
