Default What makes a webinar interesting?
Hi,

I'm writing copy for a client who is having a webinar that is directed to Virtual Assistants. She has given this webinar before and I have advertised for her, but we usually have a low turn out.

My thought was because of the copy, I didn't think it was compelling enough.

My question to the forum is: what makes you read about a webinar and go, "oooh, I have got to attend this!"

Is it the offer of free stuff? Learning something that will make you money, the person giving it? What is it that makes it compelling?

Thanks for your feedback!

Well, for me it's not whether it's free or not free, it all depends on what the content is about. If it is something I am interested in and is cutting edge then most likely I will be interested in attending. Bonuses, always get my attention, but if it's the same stuff everyone else is promoting honestly I won't be that excited about attending. HTH

I agree with JoCarole.

It's truly about the content of the Webinar and not the hype that is used to get you to sign up. There have been too many times where I've read the copy and gone, woo hoo sounds really interesting and it turns out to be just the opposite.

Write your copy laying out exactly what your client will be sharing and the reasons why this webinar is WAY better than all of the other Webinar's out there. What makes it different and what will I learn at the end of it.

If it's catered towards VA's make sure that your selling points are something that speaks to what VA's are dealing with right now..

Bonus' while nice aren't the only reason I'd attend the seminar, it's all about the content in my opinion and being a little edgy and maybe sharing something that others make you pay for is always good...

Something like sharing a 3 steps of a 10 step process to bringing in that star client, but write it as only the 3 steps, make sure the content can stand on it's own and that someone doesn't necessarily need to purchase something to make it work, but if they did it would enhance the process....

Like Jocarole and Renee, it is about the content of the webinar and not they sales pitch. I usually pick a webinar based on the person presenting. Often times you are lured in with free stuff when in fact it becomes all about the sales pitch and the "free" items have no value.

Also, if it the same stuff that is presented over and over again I usually pass so you may want to be sure that attendees know it is something that they have not seen or heard before.

Thank you ladies. Would it be alright if after I write my first draft you can give me your opinion of it? I can email it to you if it is not appropriate to post it here (I can scrub the identifying information so it should be okay)

I agree with Lee and company here. It's about the content which prompts me to attend webinars.

While bonuses are nice, they are not often useful. For as much as I like free e-books many of these advertised as 'bonuses' are simply rehashed, old information bound in new ebook covers.

The content has to be good for both my business and for my clients' businesses...in other words it has to be useful information that can be used in two ways.

Further, the webinar has to be held at a convenient time with minimal salesy chat. I dislike people talking amongst themselves before the guts of the webinar is delivered usually saying how wonderful each speaker is/has been. If the webinar wastes my time then I click off and I can usually tell if I am going in that direction within the first few minutes.

I like to lock webinars into my calendars with reminder notices. Those who do not offer a calendar program have a 50/50 chance of being submitted into my calendar manually.

@socialcandy feel free to shoot it my way. I'm happy to take a look at it for you.

@Janine - what a great point about the calendar, I'm with you on that and hadn't event thought about mentioning it.

One of the biggest drawbacks for me is not having the option of listening to the webinar at a later date and time. (Often the timing is inconvenient for me and I like to be able to replay again and again while taking notes)
