Default Want to remove background noise from WMM - any suggestions? video
Hello!

I have a WMM (Windows Movie Maker) video converted to a wav file. This is a video recorded by the client on site in front of a sewer plant.

While he is speaking there is a lot of background noise from the sewer plant along with the normal outside noises.

I'd like to remove the background noise but keep his narration. Or at the very least, try to lower the background noise level.

WMM does not remove background noise. I can use Audacity to clean up the audio but I can't export the audio from the video to import into Audacity to clean the file.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Janine

Hello, Janine. That is a great question. I've used WavePad Sound Editor by NCH to eliminate awful echoes and background noises. There is a free version of the software, always nice.

Please let me know if this works for you. And I'd love to see other suggestions here as well.

Patty,

I can run audio through any number of programs to clean up the noise but I need the audio file which I cannot extract from WMM.

Thanks for the suggestion but it looks like WavePad needs the audio file I can't export.

Janine,
I have Camtasia and may be able to help. Shoot the file over to me by email or dropbox and I'll see what I can do.

Hi Janine,

One other idea is to download a program that captures audio and/or screen. So, you would basically play the video while have the capturing software recording. You should then be able to segregate just the audio from the new recording and edit accordingly.

One more idea - if you can import the WMM file into Camtasia, the audio and video may land on two separate timelines - audio timeline and video timeline. You may then be able to export just the audio.

There are a variety of options, it really all depends on what software you have available. Hopefully Christina got you all fixed up!

Sorry about that, Janine. At quick glance, I thought you had said WMV. I use that program to try to turn poor audio into a little better quality.

I went and checked out Camtasia -- that looks like it would be so much fun. I had never heard of it before. I'm definitely going to have to look into that.

Hoping your holidays are warm and sunny!

Patty, thanks! I appreciate your input.

Christina, I'll get that over to you. Thanks for the offer. I have a bit of trimming to do and then I'll send it to you. The client sends it to me in parts and then I have to piece it together.

Darlene, thank you!

It always goes back to Camtasia, which by the way is on my Christmas list this season.

Janine
