A question I am often asked is: Hey, Darlene, what microphone do you think I should use?

When deciding on a microphone, here are two key points to consider:

What will be the use of your microphone? Do you need a microphone for basic internet chat, podcasting, recording of instruments, recording while outside, etc. How will you will be using your microphone will determine the type of microphone you should be choosing.

What is your budget? If you do a quick search on the internet, you will see prices of microphones vary, as do the types of microphones. Consider your budget and then search out microphones that suit your need and your budget.

I know how you feel -- when I first started recording my podcast -- I found myself practically yelling into the mic "Hello, Hello...testing TESTING" I don't do that all too much anymore

I did want to add to my post above about considering your budget. The old adage, you get what you pay for, is sometimes true with microphones. And many podcasters say, never skimp on your sound...and your sound has a lot to do with your microphone. I agree, but you don't need to spend a fortune to sound good. My best advice, research, research, research. There are plenty of options out there and research is the key to getting the mic that is best suited for your needs.
