I normally don't brag about finding a new client but this post is a half-brag/half-tip on finding clients.
I just landed a new client at double the time most of my clients average...at my newest rate and I couldn't be more thrilled. He's my ideal client...has been a successful consultant for 12 years and looking to get more online presence....uses WordPress...he writes well, speaks well and above ALL else, he turns around emails in a few hours. (The contract came back to me in under 2 hours...I nearly fell off my chair...I lost my breath for a moment...I thought my husband would find me passed out under my desk.) And he pays on time so far.
I keep pinching myself because I typically *get*
some of those attributes in a client but never all in one individual.
But I wanted to tell you how I found him.
I participate on a Monday morning sales call with another coach. It's a half hour of my time and I usually just put the call on speaker phone while I whittle away at something else. I always participate on the call with some valuable nugget I have found on the web or from an article I've read. As a result, the coach gives me a few seconds to introduce myself and say 'what it is I do'. The coach knows me by my first name.
Well one of the callers who also frequents the teleseminar asked the coach during the call about making some improvements to his website. I made some comments about adding an email sign up list, recommended a shorter domain, and adding a down-loadable tips sheet...website marketing 101...nothing really earth shattering in those thoughts but he liked what he heard.
He went to my website and sent me a note to call him. We had a nice chat and before I could even get back with him with a nice 'thank you for your time', he was ready to get started.
It fell in my lap and this at a time when I am struggling with one client with whom I probably will need to 'spring loose', as we say here on VAF

(I've tried, she's not cooperating) and another client (one of my largest) whose work is no longer as enjoyable but I'm working hard to make that better.
So if you are looking for a client...participate. Participate and contribute here on VAF...and find some teleseminars which coaches offer for free and make yourself known. I found this teleseminar on Facebook but there are some advertised on LinkedIn and Twitter. Look for coaching seminars in areas that you specialize.
