Default Need to Remove Background Noise in an Outdoor Video - is there a no-cost solution?
I have video that was shot outdoors and I would like to remove the background noise. I've poked around on several forums and Googled and watched a number of YouTube tutorials but most suggestions require the purchase of expensive clean-up software and I'm not planning on doing this often enough to warrant the expense.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you!

Janine

Hi Janine,

I am guessing that there is also a conversation or someone talking during the same time (focal point of the video) as the background noise is present. Is that correct?

Darlene, I took the video outside while in a moving car so there is a rushing sound from the wind that I wish to remove. My voice is in the beginning of the video and I sound like a squeaky cat but it's OK if my voice is removed along with the wind-sound.

My client is a real estate developer and I filmed his location this past 4th of July. My intention is to use the video and narrate in a non-squeaky voice and add some captions but the wind is too strong in the background to do that.

Ok, great. If you intend to do a voiceover (which is sounds like you are) you can remove the entire audio track from video using a video editing program.

I am not sure what program you use. However, most editing programs that have the audio and video separated as their own track will allow you to simply remove the audio track from the project file.

I know for certain you can do this with Adobe Premiere Elements. You can download a free trial of the program. You can do this in Camtasia too. Most of the time it's a matter of right-clicking on the track and selecting "Remove audoi or remove track" (or whatever jargon your program of choice uses).

Then you can record your voiceover and import the audio into your project.

Thanks, Darlene.

I squirreled around the internet a bit more and came upon a solution.

I opened Windows Movie Media (2010) and clicked on Audio, then I muted the audio and saved the project. When I opened it up and ran it, the background audio was gone including the voice, which as I mentioned was not a problem. I added music instead of my voiceover.

WMM doesn't seem to separate out the audio and the video like Camtasia so there was no way to remove it that way.

Thank you for your information. I appreciate it.
