Default Typical Referral Fee
Hello Fellow VAs,

Does anyone have an idea on what a typical referral fee would be if another VA refers a client to you?

Thanks.

Hello Ivette,

When I refer a client to a VA, I don't charge a referral fee. My feeling is that I'm doing someone a favor and working toward building a network of VAs I can rely upon. In turn, other VAs will refer me and think of me when the time comes to do so.

But that is just the way I handle this transaction.

If you find you are acting as a referral service then perhaps a referral fee might be something to consider.

You might consider a flat fee.

We don't typically discuss fees on this forum so I don't have a solid answer for you.

Janine

I am the same as Janine. I refer out clients to other VA's that I know can better suit them. In turn, i have gotten referrals from others too.

If you do sign the client, a nice thank you gift would be welcome but that is your own choice.

I agree that a nice gift is in order. I never even heard of a referral fee. I believe in the "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" way of doing things.

Same here - I've referred out dozens of prospects to other VAs and never really expect a referral fee. Some have referral programs where they give a percentage, say 10 to 20% for the first month or two, which is nice. Giving referrals goes a LONG way in my book and I think others feel the same so I just forward the email with a nice recommendation.

I am in agreement with the gift. I have found that the more I network and connect with other VA's, not only I am learning great things and getting support; but referrals come with trusted relationships. There is certainly enough business to go around, and I am of the mindset that "what goes around, comes around."

I have never dealt with any referrals lately. I will let you know what I come up with when I run into this situation.

I have referred people to others and have not looked for any type of fees, I just know that now I'm up and running, referrals will be coming my way as well.

I like the gift idea rather than the referral fee. If I personally know the VA then a thank you gift can be personal and a bit easier but if I dont know them well what is a good gift? Office Max gift certificate because they can always get something for their home office that they really want? Any better suggestions??

When a client refers someone to me, I have give that client a $25.00 discount on their next invoice upon payment from the client that was referred to me. Is this something that others do as well?
