I have reached a point where I may need to outsource overflow. My question is do your existing clients know that certain tasks may be outsourced? I only have a few tasks that don't require a login or something specific to the client to complete. Everything else involves a system or login or access that I've been given from that client. Although it's a task I could outsource, I think I need to ask permission from my client? I do have a confidentiality clause in my subcontractor agreement but I'm torn about whether that is enough.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I have a clause in my contract which explains that some projects may need to go to another virtual assistant. If indeed, I find that to be the case, the clause states that I will gladly find another individual to fulfill the opportunity but only with the express permission of the client.

I personally would not find outside assistance without the permission of the client.

As a subcontractor myself knowing my contractor communicates to their clients makes me feel better doing the task. The clients will respect you if you're upfront with them and ask to add the clause when you find the need.

It also depends on how you outsource your work. Local outsourcing or worldwide outsourcing? I do not outsource any of my work. I do all of it myself or with my partner. I have done research about what clients think about outsourcing. Many do not like the idea of someone outsourcing their work to someone else. With identities being a huge consideration it is our job to protect that. That is why we have privacy policy. I will never put my clients business in any situation where there well being will be sacrificed. Our business takes pride in not outsourcing work.

I think that unless it is an employee of your company any other person working on the clients work the client should be informed and permission gained in writing. This protects both you and your client.

I know in Canada outsourcing out side of Canada the confidentiality cannot be guaranteed and you will not be protected under the Canadian Federal or Provincial Privacy Laws.

I think the Client should be informed before we can start things. This is not only about protection but as partner we should also be transparent with them.

I do as much work myself (family business) as possible. At the same time I want to ensure that my clients' needs are met. I want them to get the best possible service and right on my website I refer to myself as a resource for referrals - i.e. often do wellness support consultation but if need physician will refer.

That is an excellent question because I wouldn't have thought that it would really matter, but I certainly can understand that there may be confidential information that they wouldn't want many people having access too (without them knowing it).

I really liked the idea of telling the client about outsourcing certain tasks. It does help in the long run.
