Default Adding calculator to website

Hi Tess,

I must say that I really like the calculator that you guys came up with, it's more visually appealing than others out there. I do have a question about it though. Is there a reason why you decided to have members who want to use the calculator do so by linking to your site?

I ended up using a calculator from another site because it allowed me to just copy and paste the code into my webpage without linking to the site. In return , I had to do was mention the source of the calculator on my site. I was more comfortabe with this optionas opposed to linking because I felt that if the other site went down for any reason, it would inadvertently affect what was displayed on my site.

When your site went down this morning, I checked the website of a few other forum members to verify what I thought would happen and did see an error on their pages stating that the server couldn't connect. Like I said earlier, I do not know your reasoning in having people link to your site to be able to use the calculator, but just wanted to share my perspective, especially in light of what happened this morning.

Tricia.

Hi Tricia,
Thanks for your comments and feedback on this. Fortunately, our server issues are few and far between...but you know...even the almighty Google goes down from time to time
Our requiring the link to remain instact is a pretty standard request, and considering the amount of work that went into creating the program, is a small one at that.

Because the code for the calculator is hosted at and provided by our website the feature would go down with our site regardless of the link - the link has nothing to do with whether or not the code functions. It's a server-based program.

Thanks again for your note

Also, just to be sure I answered your question completely - the reason it's server-based is it's far too complex to just offer the actual code for copy and paste - with the customization options, etc. it made more sense to host here. Not to mention many of our members use free website building programs which have a distinct tendency to literally strip pieces of complex code OUT of the original - rendering the program useless.

Thanks for you response Tess. I am very aware of the amount of work that was put in, and thank both you and your husband for your effort. You have totally answered my question.
