Hey everyone!

I decided to go ahead and dive into creating my VA business after doing some jobs here and there that I found on sites like flexjobs and hiremymom. My youngest daughter has significant medical needs so finding a job outside the home is not an option. But I've been working from home since 1998, so it really isn't new to me.

The name of my new venture is "Behind the Desk Solutions." I'm in the process now of getting my license, putting together my website, collateral, and the backend of the business. I plan to go "live" on 1/1/11. Sounds like it could be a good luck date!

I'm a bit overwhelmed trying to put everything together, but I am very excited about this opportunity.

I LOVE IT!!! Sounds like a plan to me. Like you, I have been doing "side jobs" at my house for awhile. My reg job requires me to travel all over the US so I don't spend a lot of time at home until recently. My mom has not been in the best of health so I am also leaning more into the "VA" field. I had no idea how to get this organized and actually MAKE it my main business, however I have been doing a ton of research and hope that I will also be able to get this up and running at the first of the year.

I've been doing medical transcription for 5+ years for an actual MT company plus a lot of other freelance work on the side -- lots of transcription, admin assist stuff, etc. That coupled with my daughter's complicated medical situation, I feel like I will eventually like to lean towards being in the medical field.

For now, since I have experience (20+ years) in web and office administration as well as MT work, I'm going to have a bit broader base (not completely wide open!).

Hey Dixie -- First of the year too? We should do this together I am sorry to hear about your mom. I know how tough it is. My daughter is 2-1/2, and we are fortunate to get nursing for her to help out during the day sometimes. Lots of doctors appointments, therapies, and her biweekly treatment. There is no way I could have a regular 9-5 job, you know?

Hello, Carrie. I just wanted to welcome you to this great forum! I am also a newly established VA and have found this site to be such a lifeline. Never hesitate to ask a question -- or even read through all the topics -- you will find the most helpful people here. It sounds like you've got your business ready to go! That is great that you have so much medical transcription experience. I found that many psychologists in my area don't have a secretary or person in their office. Many outsource their work or believe it or not, do it themselves! That may be a great first target customer base for you. I wish you all the luck in the world getting started. Your daughter is such a lucky girl to have a great mommy like you! Good luck, and I can't wait to read about your success in 2011!
