Default Newbie in Georgia!
Who knew that there was already a whole network and much, much more on virtual assistants. I actually stumbled on the term during my inquires on starting my own business. A virtual assistant basically describes what I was trying to do with my company? I had a great start with ideas, planning and my website, but now the hard part, how to get business!

I plan to read old threads and would love to hear feedback about how its working for you. The hard part for me now is getting business and specifically getting business on a part-time schedule. I can't afford to quit my day job just yet.

I look forward to meeting you all (yal).

Tammy

Welcome to the VA world Tammy, and to the forums.

I too am finding getting business the hardest part, I only launched a month ago and they say patience is a virtue, something which I am really having to learn. I just want to work!!! (I'm a go getter) though there are many business development things I can focus on in the meantime.

Good luck to you!

Kimberly

Welcome Tammy! I'm a neighbor to your north (NC). I too stumbeld upon the industry back in 2005 when we were moving cross country due to military orders. I knew I wanted to work at home and I had mad administrative skills but the rest was pure chance. SO glad that I found out about the industry back then and was able to see it evolve into so much more today.

My best advise is to make sure that you find a niche and market to that niche. For example, if your niche is social media and you like to work with coaches, then go where they hang out and market to them because they are always looking for specialists.

It does take patience to get clients - back in 2005 it took about 6 months to get my first client. Of course that's because I didn't really have the marketing thing down yet

My motto is get clarity, get a plan, and you'll get clients. Good luck!

Hi and welcome!
My best advice is to start experimenting with different marketing and networking approaches - define your target market and then get yourself in front of them. Consistent active marketing is the only real way to draw in your first client.

There's a big section on the forums dedicated to marketing and networking, you'll find some great ideas and inspiration for getting your business name out there.

Wishing you much success!

Good advice! One of the hardest things right now is taking in all the information. I've been reading so much that I'm all over the place. There's just so much out there; it's time to regroup.

Tammy, I casually mentioned that I was going to become a VA to my networking group and the members JUMPED at the opportunity to hire me. After you decided what group you want to work for just get out there and tell everyone what you do and even if they can't use you they may know someone who can!

Good luck,
BlissTex
