Question New York City Newbie!!!

Hello
Nice to meet ya,

I am ready to start a Virtual Assistant business, I have Graphic design skills, and I love to draw. I have worked as an Admin Assitant, Secretary, Customer Service Rep for years. I fell in love with working from home earlier this year and thus far I have extensive experience in the telecommute industry...I have a few work at home jobs that I am thankful for right now.

I know I would enjoy being a Virtual Assistant because I have done so much work similar to it in the past. I am also not interested in working in corporate or doing face to face customer service again because that was something I definetly did not enjoy for the most part.

So my question is do you know of any VA's that are willing to be a mentor... I looked over the check list but it would also be nice to speak with one of you in real time with the extra questions I do have.

Also do you think its best to start a VA business with others or on your own?

Last but not least did any of you assist a Virtual Assistant before getting started and if so can you find such an opportunity here?

Wish you all the best and im sure I will enjoy my stay -JJ

Hi and welcome
I think you'll find that just interacting on the boards here is a great way to receive support and encouragement - be sure to read the available info and post your own questions and comments.

We do ave a classifieds section and an RFP section where established VAs will sometimes post ads looking for subs, etc. but they will generally choose to work with other VAs who at least are established with a business presence, if not heir own clients - this lends itself to a professional persona which is more appealling to a VA/business owner. Again, interacting here is a good way to show other VAs what you're all about and increase your chances of being offered subcontracts.

Hope that helps!

Hi JJ,

Welcome to the forum. Good luck with your new VA business. I know it's been said a hundred times, but it's true, read through all of the posts that you can on these boards. The information is invaluable.

As for the mentoring part, there are a few VA organizations out there that provide mentoring to their new members. Just do a google search.

Again, good luck with your business.

Hello New York
Congrats on deciding to start your business. It's so exciting!!
It sounds as though you have a great foundation for starting your business.

I was lucky enough to find a VA to subcontract work to me when I began. It was very helpful to have the support of someone who understood all of the fears and uncertainties of just starting out. She really helped me gain confidence and I still love doing work with her til this day.

Dawn
