I officially launched my virtual assistant business about a week ago and I'm very excited. Now I'm networking and joining great groups like this! Working on my first client as well.
I got the push I needed to start my business after getting laid off from a company I was with for many years. It turned out to be good timing actually because my oldest heads to kindergarten this fall and this business will allow me to be home for him after school.
Sometimes it takes something like getting laid off or quitting a job to put you on the right path! Congratulations on your new business and securing your first client!
The primary reason I started my business was so that I could be there for my daughter as well. She is 3 now and goes to preschool but I want to be home for her when she starts school and have the flexibility to spend quality time with her or go to her events when she gets older without having to worry about a boss that doesn't understand or requesting time off or having to work overtime to make up for time taken for her.

I always love hearing the story behind each VAs decision to go solopreneur - your story is increasingly common but is a blessing in disguise as I'm sure you've realized.
