New and inexperienced as VA
Hi everyone!

After working in the corporate world for 15+ years, I am attempting to transition to becoming a VA. I have a young daughter and feel that I am missing out on some very important moments in her life. So after many conversations with my husband, we have decided to look into what experienced VA's have to say.

I am not sure of what amount of technology is involved, or even how or where to start. Any and all guidance is appreciated.

Hello and to the VAForums!

You've definitely come to the right place. These forums have as much info as you could ever want or need (and then some!) when it comes to starting and running your VA business. Have you thought about which services you would offer? What experience do you have in the corporate world that could transfer over to your business?

I'd recommend taking some time to search through the forums; most likely any question you have has been asked and answered here. And if not, feel free to post any specifics questions. The members here are very friendly and extremely helpful!

I have a young daughter too and couldn't imagine putting her in daycare all day, every day. After all, they're only young once!

Best of luck with your decision!

Hello and as well!

There is quite a lot of technology required as you are working virtually. The best thing is to get yourself a good book that outlines all of these things, eg. "The 2 second commute" and "Virtual Assistants, the series", both from Amazon. There are also quality guides/ebooks written by some of the VAs on here, so check out the VA websites for information material. Have a look in the book review section for recommendations.

You will need a well functioning computer with newish software and a reliable broadband connection. Depending of what you want to offer you also may need to find out more about social networking and online marketing services. Stroll around the forums here and see what you can learn from here as well. There's a lot of information on the forum here.

Good luck.
