Smile New to the group
Hi, I am new to the group and am launching my VA business here in Charlotte NC.(Any of you live in North carolina, I would love some "buddyship". I had 1 client for about 3 months last summer but they ran out of work so no work for me. Its gave me a taste to know this is what i really want to do as a career! I took some time off and regathered myself for 2011. I did not have a website but from what i've read on this forum, it will be good to have one. So far the posts I've read have been SO helpful. Its so much knowledge here that my mind is FULL!! Any tips would be most helpful particularly any freebies I should check out. Glad to be here.
Have a great superbowl sunday!

There are tons of freebie websites and blogs out there. I am using Office Live for my website and Wordpress for my blog. Both are free, but if you want a custom URL for your website it's like 14.00 a year I believe. So that's not bad. The one thing with my website is that the blog syncing does not work properly so that my blog is not diplaying properly on my website and I had to use Wordpress. The other thing is that Google analytics doesn't work well with it either. Something to do with the coding and I am not a coding expert so I can't figure it out. The coding with Google made my website freeze all the time. Once I removed it it runs just fine.

There are other freebies out there just Google free websites and tons of them will come up. Same with blogs Google free blogs. Once you have narrowed it down to something you think you might like of have questions about them before choosing one just come back here as there are many on here that are very knowledgable about the websites and blogs.

I do wish you the best of luck!
Rhonda

Carm,

There are lots of free alternatives out there for your website however I would recommend that you invest a little for your site. The benefits will certainly outweigh the costs. You can get a domain and hosting for under $50 a year through some reputable and great companies.

This alternative will also allow you email address (i.e. yourname@yourdomain.co), better analytic so you can see where you need to tweak and what is working, more flexibility with customizing your look and brand, and so on.

Also, take care in selecting your domain name. Keep it simple, relevant and easy to remember. This is your virtual calling card and you want it to be easy for folks to find you.
