Re: Intro
I came here out of desperation. I am a lot older than most here, I am sure. (Doesn't bother me tho). Two weeks ago, I went to work bright and early as ususual, got right to work as usual, and got payroll out of the way, as usual. I felt pretty perky in a brand new outfit, new hairdo, new shoes and even a new necklace. Very very unusual for me. But I went shopping that weekend and my daughter talked me into the little buying spree. My boss of 20 years, the man who owns the company, whose assistant I was for him and his 7 other successful companies, came in, sat down with a cup of coffee for me (the first time in 20 years he had ever done that). Asked me how I was doing, and then said, he was sorry, but he would have to lay me off. I was floored. He asked me if I would mind finishing payroll, and write down all the passwords that I used and give them to us daughter. Said he was sorry, went down the hall and repeated this ritual to 4 other salaried employees. I went home, cried, got scared, I am my only income. Got mad. The next day, I went job hunting, and found that there is no work available for a 62 year old woman. I even applied at the local grocery store. The next day I realized that in 20 years I gained more skills through experience than my education ever gave me. And decided to put it to use. About 4 years ago I hired a VA for the business I worked at, and it was a great experience. So I just started googling, and here I am. Now I just have to get out of scared to death mode, make some decisions, and make it happen.
