Default Hi y'all, from Texas
Good evening everyone,
I am a brand new member to this forum. My name is Yvette Bryars, my company is Versatile Virtual Assistant, based out of the Houston, Texas metro area. I have dreamed of, and researched being a VA for over 8 years and I have been actively in business for 14 months. I provide a very well rounded list of admin support services and I've just added logo and web design to the mix now. I love what I do because of the creativity and variety involved, and the fact that people are often stunned by the skills I've acquired through the years. Kudos are good for the soul.

I am an artist first and foremost, who also happens to be a bit obsessive about computers. The best of both worlds for me. I am also a student at my local community college pursuing my degree in graphic arts. (I have finally figured out what I want to be when I grow up!)

I am very involved in ABWA and several other women's business groups in my area, and I have met and am still meeting some amazing women. I wish I had taken this plunge years ago and I am looking forward to getting acquainted with all of you amazing women who are part of this forum and the VA industry.

Sincerely,
Yvette Bryars

Hello Yvette, welcome to the community
I'm so curious what it was after eight years that finally sparked those first steps toward establishing your practice?

Congratulations on your successes - it's always inspiring to hear from VAs who LOVE what they do!

Hi Tess,
It's a long story - but raising a family took most of my time. I eventually started doing contract work. I've always worked and it was hard not doing so. I learned about the VA industry when searching for home business opportunities, I was bound and determined to learn all I could before taking the plunge. I did let fear get in the way for awhile, I also accepted a very well paying position as a sales and marketing assistant in 2007. I wasn't there quite a year when I got laid off. One door closes, another opens, so I went full time with the business. It's been a rough first year, lots to learn, but I really do love what I do and I have a counselor with the Small Business Development Center assisting me and mentoring me along the way. With his assistance I've landed a client which promises to be very challenging and lucrative and I am so excited about moving forward and learning more all the time.

Thanks for your welcome, hope to talk with you more soon.
