My (just turned last week) 20-yr-old son, and only child, Pvt. Christopher J. Andersen, is also "technically" stationed at Ft. Hood, TX although he has been in Mosul, Iraq since the end of November; he is with Killer Troop, 3rd Armored Cavalry.
There were days I was worried sick about him after he deployed (when reading the papers and reports from Mosul) but I finally just accepted that even though I can't protect him, God can.
In a strange way, having Goddess in which to invest my time and energy has really helped me deal with my son's deployment and gives me something positive to share with him.
Once your son is settled at his overseas base, he will be able to email and phone you on a regular basis. It is amazing what just getting (and giving) a quick - I'm ok email can do to help bolster both of your spirits! I also send him packages of goodies about every 6 weeks (US Postal Priority Mail Flat Rate Box - cram it full for a flat $8.95!)
Don't ever hesitate to email or im me if you just need to talk. You can pm me for my contact info once you have 25 posts on this forum.

My heart goes out to you as well!! I am VERY familiar with the flat rate mail boxes, and in fact, I believe they just came out with larger boxes that are $12.95 and the PO is offering discounts for any packages sent to soldiers on top of that, (it's about time!).
Thank you for your support, and I just may take you up on the communications back & forth!! I will PM you as soon as I can. It's very hard up here in Maine, as there are no military bases and no support groups, and very few who are going through what we are. I am trying to get a small group together as there are a few in my area, (within a 50 mile radius).
Thanks again, and I look forward to hearing from you and chatting with you in the future!!
