Default Hi From NJ
Hi All,

My name is Patty and while doing a search to find work typing resumes for college students I came accross this forum.

It looks like a great place to be a member.

I am looking for work as mentioned and since I type 100 wpm thought that would be a good way to try and earn some money in this tough economy, where full time jobs are hard to find.

I'm here initially to see if someone can help me in how much to charge for my services. For instance, typing resumes. I know I need 10 posts to start a new thread. When I can do that I am not sure which section to post my question in.

I would love to get a small business going and become an active member of this forum.

And where do I go to get my post count up?

Can anyone help me? TIA

Patty

Hi Patty!

Welcome to VAF. You will find it to be a great resource and everyone is very helpful. You should be able to find resources in the document library (once you have 25 posts; you can access it). And I know some other VAs offer typing services.

Good luck in starting your business!

Thanks Jamie,

I have been looking around and found a great thread in the transcription forum where links are given to learn how to do it all, get graded on your work, etc.

I am so hoping this all works out for me.

Now to get my 25 posts. Is there a fun section where you can up posts quickly, like on some other forums?

Patty

Hi Patty,

Welcome to VAF. This is truly a great forum for VAs.

There really is no magic bullet to get 25 posts other than to participate in posts. When I first logged onto VAF, I started checking out those thread topics which were of interest to me. I had questions about billing and client relations so I popped over to those sections and simply got involved reading and asking questions of other people's posts. I even did a search and then found out that no one had asked a particular question so I started my own thread. As folks started to answer me, I answered back and before you know it I had half my posts.

Another way to gain 25 posts is to offer information to other VAs. Think of it as engaging in a conversation. For example, today I was reading Social Media Examiner and came upon an article about 5 Social Media Mistakes that Hurt Your Sales This might make a nice topic for conversation; allow me to make comments so others can get to know me and add value to the forum for others to use.

Before you know it...you will be up to 25 posts. Plus, it is great way to gain exposure. All threads are indexed by the search engines with the exception of the members-only sections.

Hi Patty,

Welcome to VAF, from a former NJ resident. When I first joined, I really didn't have the time to 25 different posts... but I did have time to browse the forums and saw that it has a lot to offer. So one night when I could not sleep, I read all of the posts I thought I would have an interest in and posted replies. I found that, within about an hour and a half, I had posted about 19 really in depth responses to reach the 25 post target. That night, once I got going, I didn't want to stop. While I didn't post on everything, I posted on a number of things and found business opportunities as well. So buckle down, post 25 replies and see what VAF truly has to offer.

Thanks folks. I have been doing some research on links given in threads and from my introductory PM.

Still learning but will get to posting soon. (a bit busy with a puppy here for boarding for 10 days so not much time for the computer).

I'll "buckle down" soon.

I read something about using a hobby as a VA. My hobbies are breeding and raising Labradors (for over 40 years), cooking, reading, gardening. Not sure how that would work into a VA.
