I did however run into some trouble when I first logged in. For one, not being able to use a public based web email account threw a wrench into my joining. Caused me to get creative in working around it. Two, it was about 25 minutes before I got prompted that I must review the updated terms and conditions, before I could do anything at all.

That's because all new accounts here are moderated by a human admin, this is advised in the email you receive after you first sign up. Some accounts are not approved for up to 36 hours or more, depending on various factors.
