Hello everyone. My name is Sue Canfield and I live in Roseville, California. I've been working virtually as an office administrator since 2005. My business has grown by word of mouth tenfold in the last year and it's my plan to grow it at least that much in the next next.

I also help my husband, Joel D Canfield, run his two businesses, one as a web designer and the other as a small business consultant. We also founded the Northern California Association of Entrepreneurs to help other small business owners succeed.

I'm looking forward to using this site to grow my knowledge and hopefully be of benefit to others through the forum.

Yes, it's great working with my husband. Sometimes we get that, oh don't you get on each other's nerves? I guess knowing each other since we were kids, going on 35 years now, helps.

We're considering putting our three businesses under an umbrella company and offering a package to small business owners. They could get a website, va services, and a business consultant all in the same place for a set monthly price. We're working on the details.

I'm having so much fun growing my business through networking online. I'm really enjoying this site.

Well...there are some days that are challenging for us, admittedly! We'll have been married three years in October - not quite the 35 of practice you two have - it's all a wonderful journey though, to be sure.

We love being able to offer our clients a one-stop-shop and they certainly appreciate having one place to go for all of their business development needs. I think you and your husband have the right idea with your business plan and it will be fun to see your practice grow!

Well, though we've known each other 35, I was only 9 and he 14 when we met. We've actually only been married 4-1/2 years. Fortunately we're very alike in almost every way so we get along great. We worked together for a couple of years at the same company many years ago, long before we were married. So we already knew what it would be like.

Think it's interesting that your VA biz has exploded in the past year especially. Is this due to extra effort on your part, or is it that people are catching on to how great it is work with VAs?

I'd say my business has grown largely due to word of mouth - the best referral system there is. I've also done lots and lots of networking. It seems to, that in an economic downturn, people realize they need to do something to stand out and be different. So they are actually willing to spend money on my services to help them market themselves in a way they weren't doing when things were going well for them.
