Hello from Sydney Australia!
Hello from Down Under! I am new to this forum and business (at least the virtual side) as well!

After trying in vain to find the perfect part time job in administration, I realised that it doesn't exist!

So I desided to create my own work, and then found this site! So now I plan on trying my hand as a VA while at home with the two children. Who knows, if it goes well, I might just stay with this! I plan on doing a lot of reading to see and share ideas. If anyone wishes to offer advice etc, please feel free to contact me. I am trying to immerse myself, so to say!

Especially advice on balancing small children, renovating and trying to start a new business in a country you were not born in!!

BTW - I posted this in someone else's thread yesterday and didn't realize, so I'm posting correctly now today (I hope!).

Welcome. I live in Australia as well. I have been working from home since last September and finding it is working well. I have 3 kids so it suits me as well. I haven't gone on my own as yet. Still feeling around. I freelance on a few different sites.
Good luck with your new venture.

Hi Dianna... I actually just did a vlog with my son (who is now 8 - he was 1 when I started this whole thing) and it'll post next week, but in the meantime, how old are your kids? Are you anti-mess? Also, what kind of services are you planning to offer? I can probably toss a few ideas your way!

This is an excerpt from a "how to" email I send out to people that contact me:
Quote:
Kids: Both of my kids recently started school and it's BLISS now - I get so much more done during the day - but before that I will tell you, it's hard working from a home office sometimes. There were days when it seemed like I never got anything done. I have an 8 and 6 year old. My husband works with me full time as my in-house tech support guy (and he is learning bookkeeping) for our servers and various moving parts while he's going to back to school - we don't have a conventional style of living at all, he was able to join me full time about 3 years ago. Be prepared to work around your kid's schedule and to take clients that can accommodate your schedule. For instance, because I could never guarantee that Sesame Street won't be on or there won't be a kid screaming for a cookie, I don't take telephone answering clients (plus it's not my bag). In the past, we also had a personal assistant that comes in part-time to help with the filing, errands, etc.
I hope something in there is useful...

I hope it goes well for you and would be interested in touching base in future to see how you're going. I'm new too, and at the moment I am doing a lot of reading - from the local library as well as online.

Thanks everyone for the kind welcome!

I've got two kids - one starting Kindi and a two year old. I am hoping to be able to do about two to three days work per week until the youngest is in Kindi too.

Preferably, I could have one or two clients who can give me steady work. I am trying to work out who that might be though. One of my ideas is to contact some of the companies I used to work for in the past as a PA and see if they need some extra work done. I did a lot of transcription, proofreading and presentations for them.

Anyways - thanks for the welcome! I'm sure I will be running into everyone all around the forum!

Dianna, welcome to the community Thanks for taking the time to introduce yourself [and no worries on the errant post, it happens to the best of us! ]

I can relate to the 'trying to start a company in a country you were not born in' - I started up my VA practice while I was living in India [travel-addiction gone awry } I worked and managed my growing business from six diffierent countries for three years (including Iran and Sri Lanka!) so I'm right there on that page with you!

As to the balancing babies part, I only recently joined the WAHM brigage so have only had the last eight months to gather intel on how the other mammas manage - there are some great conversations in the Talk... about this and we have a Social Group where we're just getting that same topic underway! Join up if you like
