Hi Renee from SoCal. I am not up and running yet, still researching. You have come to the right place. This forum is the best. I am thinking about starting out as a subcontractor. Was it hard for you getting started? Good luck.

Welcome Renee!

What part of SoCal are you from? I spent 20 years in Oceanside, commuting to San Diego for most of it (law firm work). Now I live and work in my RV full-time and plan to travel once some family issues are resolved here and necessary renovations are made to my RV. I'm currently calling Springfield, MO, 'home base' and it's cold and rainy here.

I've got some bean soup in the pressure cooker. Took the weekend off and visited a friend who has a farm for retired therapy horses and I'll be caring for them next week while she attends a conference --- she's a legal nurse consultant. First time I've been out of computer range for nearly a year. Took the horse clippers to my grrrlz (2 Giant Schnauzers who were still wearing heavy winter coats) and enjoyed the weekend. One thing about VA work --- it can become all consuming --- especially if you are by yourself.

It rained yesterday and poured today. So I'm a bit homesick for SoCal at the moment.

Glad you joined the group --- I've been absent lately due to work and time away helping family and friends. But folks here are very friendly and helpful. Great place to make new friends and learn a lot.

Regards,

Karalyn

Hi Sally, Robin and Sms46030,
Thanks for the warm welcome. I am looking forward to learning as much as I can and building new friendships.

Sms, I absolutely love being a subcontractor. I actually started by building a friendship with a few other VAs as I was doing my research and when I was ready to get started they were very willing to help me get my feet wet in the VA world. Just keep on researching your options and communicate with others often. The more friendships you build, the more opportunities will come your way.

Have a great day everyone,
Renee

Hi Karalyn,
Sounds like you are really busy.
I'm up the hill in the Victorville, Hesperia, Apple Valley area.
Our neighbors raise horses and my mom actually used to be a dog groomer so I understand your current situation. My parents have also taken up RVing around the nation and they love every moment of it.

So you worked with a law firm. Are you still working with law firms or have you moved into more general virtual assistanting?

Have a great day,
Renee
