Hello from Perth Western Australia
G'Day from WA!!
My name is Debie and I started my VA business in July this year (2008).
Whew!! what a learning curve!!
After many years as an admininstrator in one form or another I had some great skills that I was very proud of; so..... why not start my own wonderful, exciting, successful VA business.
It's the perfect job for me. All the VA sites I had visited (.com and .com.au) combined with my knowledge of the way that I prefer to work told me that my decision was right and justified.
I had this confirmed when I happend across a book with the following quote;
'The road to happiness lies in two simple principles:
Find what it is that interests you and you can do well,
and when you find it put your whole soul into it
every bit of energy and ambition and natural ability you have.
John D Rockefeller.
So I'm there - I have my business name; my cards; all my registration details relevant to WA; my beautiful new computer; I'm pumped and rearing to go!!
But, then, AArrgghh!! I knew absolutely nothing of marketing; nothing of business accounting (don't even mention the word tax) nothing about the finer details of computing and the internet!!
When I heard my 15 year talk of 'Facebook, blogging and twitter' I knew the words but certainly nothing about them. I didn't think I would ever need to .... how wrong could I have been!!!! What a mistake!!!!!
My automatic reaction to something like that is to just give up. Too hard, can't do it, I'll never get my head around all that - yep! just give up! and then......
My 74 year old mum is learning for the first time ever to type, send emails and surf the intenet. I have watched mum struggle with the keyboard, watched as her eyes glazed over at the sheer volume of what she had to learn..... but she is doing it. She is stretching the boundaries of her comfort zone and that is what I must do in order to succeed.
So I am sticking at it. I am going to learn those things and continue with my plan of running a wonderful, exciting, successful VA business.
I have my vision (such a clear vision) and I have taken the first step, now I want to believe in the vision and work toward making it my reality.
If you've got this far I thank you for your time, enjoy your business and good luck.
Deb
