Default Hello from Northern Virginia!
Hi all,
I am Donya. I live in Northern VA very close to Washington DC. I have a ten year background in Office Management, HR, Payroll, and Accounting. I decided that launching a virtual assistance business would be more beneficial for myself and my family. Though I have already resigned from my position I am still very much in the early stages of my business planning I am open to any suggestions. I look forward to meeting you all Virtually of course. LOL!

Thank you all, I am feeling very excited and scared at the same time. Question? When starting out did you ever run into a situation where someone wanted to use your services but on their terms? (i.e. establishing there own rate) I received an inquiry from a former co-workers spouse who has learned of my new endeavor and feels she could really use a VA but wants to pay $10/hr.... Any suggestions?
Clearly, I would like the business but based on the various admin tasks she is requesting I would charge her at minimum $25/hour... But again I want the business. Has anyone ever been in this type of situation if so I could really use your advice. Thanks so much!

Donya, it's pretty common for potential clients to try to negotiate rates - but it has to be up to you what terms exist between you and the client. *You* are the business owner, and while some negotiation can be expected it certainly doesn't mean you have to accept it.
If you really, truly want the work and are anxious to get started you could always offer her a "three week trial period" at a discount, after which time your rate reverts back to whatever is normal for you to charge.
Or, you could simply provide her with your marketing packet, complete with rate info and the like.
Good luck and let us know what happens with this!
