Hi,

I'm Michelle and I've been working almost twenty years (yikes!) as a secretary/PA and have recently established my virtual sec services. I've got the business plan done, got my website live, business cards, leaflets and done a few direct mails to past employers etc but I'm not getting anywhere yet and I'm getting frustrated!

My hubby thinks I'm going to get a job in September when my daughter starts school but I've got to show him I can make a success of this (I'm not competitive honest) and I'm not using my valuable skills to make money for someone else!

Anyway, looks like I'll have plenty to read here and any advice on what I can do next would be much appreciated.

Oh, how long is it before I can put my website address on?

Welcome Michelle! You will love it here. Personally I have found VAF to be an invaluable resource and an amazing place to interact with other VAs.

Trying to get that first client is always a painful, nerve-racking experience. Its the anticipation of officially "starting" your business. Just work hard to establish a professional image, aggressively market, and keep your head on straight and before you know it, you will have clients! Look through VAF and you will find great tips and information to help you along the way. If you can't find an answer to something, just ask! There are so many great people here that will be happy to help.

Hello Michelle, I am only in the startup phrase so hopeful I can help. If you have to get a job working maybe you can do VA part-time until you get enough clients and work. Plenty of VA's started out part-time while keeping their 9-5. I've also read that word of mouth is the best marketing tool. Keep business cards on you, you never know who you'll run into in the grocery store. Also, look into networking events. Good Luck!

Hi, I am also new at this and I work full time (at least for now) and I am starting out slowly but I am not giving up. I have one client and plan to continue marketing and networking. This is a great place to start and there are so many resources available. It only takes time. My goal is to turn my business into a successful. Remember things don't happen over night - but presistant and taking baby steps will lead to success.
