Hello from Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Hello,
My name is Lisa. I've been an on again off again organizer for several years. It's in me. I do it without realizing it. I walk into a room and I see how it could be organized differently to be more efficient. I've mostly only organized in my own home and in the offices I've worked in. I believe things should have a place and be put there.
I've also worked as an administrative assistant for 10 years and have 2 years of College in Office Systems Technology (a fancy way of saying administrative schooling). I enjoy being an assistant but I would like to do it from home.
I am now a stay-at-home mom of a 2 year old girl. I've been toying with starting my own business so that I can work from home (for extra income) for so long now I can't even remember when I started thinking of starting my own business. However, I don't know how I'm going to juggle looking after my daughter, starting a business and running a business. I have pulled up so much research on becoming a Virtual Assistant and Professional Organizer that now I need to organize my own things because I am inundated with so much information, I don't know where to start.
Yesterday I just stumbled upon a checklist on here and I will try and get through that before anything else. I am also presenting a proposal this evening for a project at my daughter's play-group center.
Wish me luck.

Re: Hello from Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Hi Lisa, welcome to the community, it's great to have you here
It sounds like you have a great start to your research but are feeling a little overwhelmed. Just know that so many of your fellow VAs and members here have been there at one time or another and are here to help support and encourage you as you work toward your business goals.
I didn't have our daughter until I'd already been in business for a few years so I don't really know what you're up against, getting things going with a child in the picture but there are so many other VAs who have done what you're working on and have made a major success of it, so I know it can be done!
Please make yourself comfortable here and ask questions, share your own thoughts and opinions, etc.
Looking forward to celebrating the launch of your practice with you when you get there! Keep us posted...

Re: Hello from Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Hi Lisa,
Welcome! I live West of Montreal (off the Island) and just started my VA business before Christmas. I currently have one client and also do work for my husbands company. I have 3 kids age 11,9 and 2. My days are flying by so fast that I don't feel like I'm getting anything done. I also feel pretty guilty that I'm not giving enough time to my baby but hopefully it will payoff someday. It is a lot of work but it is very rewarding. I wish you luck and don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you need any help.
This is the best board for resources on the business.

Hi Lisa,
Welcome to the forums. I know it must all seem like alot going on right now, but it is a matter of pace and finding your comfort zone. I am in the pre-launch stage of my business right now. I don't have children, so don't know what it is like setting up business with little ones at home, but I am in recovery after a big op and have a disability so do know something about overcoming obstacles. I am sure you will be just fine, good luck with it all and keep us posted.

Re: Hello from Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Hello Genevieve,
Where west of the island do you live? Ile Perrot, Pincourt???? I'm in Boucherville. That is awesome that you just started your business and you already have one client plus your husbands company. Wow, 3 kids and just starting a business. That's great. Good for you.
I'm worried that too much time will be taken up starting this business that it will take away from my time with my daughter. There are so many things to think of and do.
Ironically, my husband's last name is Lachance. Maybe you are related
Thank you so much for your offer to help me out. I just found out that the proposal I prepared to re-organize a toy storage room has been approved. This will give me lots of exposure so I have to hurry up and get certain things started.

Re: Hello from Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Thank you Tess!
Thanks for your support. I just need to learn how to comfortably navigate myself around this site.
BTW, I received word that my proposal to re-organize the toy depot at my daughter's playgroup has been approved. I should be starting work on it this weekend. This project will give me lots of exposure as there are 80+ family members part of the play group location.
Thanks again.
Lisa

Re: Hello from Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Thank you all for your kind words. I need to enjoy the "ride" and not stress out too much to be perfect. I'm really good at organizing actual items and putting them in specific places....my life however, that's a little different I'm sure I will get it all figured out. Luckily I have a lot of support from my husband.
Thanks again,
Lisa.

Re: Hello from Montreal, Quebec, Canada
I'm in St-Lazare. My husband was working in Boucherville last year. It's was a pretty long commute. I'm hoping to get more clients soon but it's very difficult to get your name out and get people to want to pay for your services. I have to be positive and keep at it. It has to work! That's what I tell myself everyday!
