Hola Normita,
Bienvenido! Me alegro mucho encontrar otra VA bilingual o mejor dicho, trilingual.

Let me be polite to the other ladies and translate
Welcome! I'm happy to find another bilingual or better yet, trilingual VA.

A while ago I did a 1-month study abroad program in Oaxaca, Mexico, and it was wonderful! I really loved it and hope to go back one day.
For now I'm running my VA business part-time, but in my full-time job I work with executive assistants in Mexico and other Latin American countries. It's great to have international connections and I hope we can connect in a similar way.

This is a great forum if you're looking for resources, tips, feedback, etc.
Lots to learn, so take your time

Adios!

Gracias Debbie for your welcome!

I am glad to hear that you were in Oaxaca, it is a magic place, and I love it there too! I hope to be back there too, it is a great place to visit and there is a while since do not go back neither.

I have been working hard in some projects of my husband, that is why I haven't had too much time for the Forum these days but today I did not want to let the day pass without answer you.

I would like to exchange some messages with you; it is always nice to have somebody to chat with who speaks your language.

I have a question for you and for anyone who wants to answer me.
How did you manage to get your first International client?

I have been posted my company on some international directories.
Do you have some suggestions where I should post?

I have received some answers but nothing yet. Last week I sent a quotation to somebody in Spain and she answered me BUT she said that she had already hired another company, even though I answered immediately, she said that she was not sure if that company would make the work right so she said she would keep my info in case she needs me.
I hope that she becomes my first client or somebody else. <Crossing my fingers>

Here in Mexico I have completed some works (Web Pages and translations) but I need more work, if somebody knows someone who needs translations form English/Spanish/French please let me know.

Thanks for your support.

Hola Normita,

sorry for not replying sooner, as usual I have too many balls in the air

How did I get my first international client? You know I never thought about it, because it doesn't matter where the clients come from. I have mostly U.S. clients and this year I got my first Dutch client through my sister in The Netherlands.

Registering with international directories is a great idea. I signed up with some free membership sites, but mostly related to translations: Proz.com, translationdirectory.com and www.trally.com. You can also try Odesk.com, but competition may be strong on sites like that. Also keep in mind that working with European companies is a disadvantage for us because of the time difference.

You could collaborate with other VAs who are busy enough to outsource to you.

Ask your past customers to refer you, offering them an incentive/discount.

If you don't have a specialty yet, become an expert because that will give you better chances than being a general VA.

Hope these ideas help a bit.

take care!

Debbie

Hi Jen,
I visited Merida two years ago while on a cruise tour. We did some touristy things, but I enjoyed my visit to Merida and still have a T-shirt I purchased there

Have you moved already? How are things going?

Keep us posted, cause I may do the same one day

Debbie

Hola mi amigas!

I am here only until the 30th. I have a lovely office on a patio overlooking a pool with an orange tree for shade!

The virtual work is going well. I have updated a website for a client, have some accounting to do and some new content to write. There have been no technical problems which was my big fear.

My schedule is a bit off - not the norm from home. Something that I would have to change on a real life basis here in Merida. Or do I?

The issue I see will be attracting new clients should my hours wane with my present clients. It's much easier networking face to face in Denver but I'm confident I'll figure it out.

Thanks for all the support!

Hola Marian,

I am living at the Estado de Mexico in Acozac near to a Golf Club. I am living near the fields actually my place is in the fields, I have lots of plants and frutal trees. Here the nicest thing that we have is the weather because we do not suffer of cool weather. I lived 3 years in Quebec, Canada and I learnt that it is much better over here. Where is you family living, in the city?
