Hello -
I've been lurking for awhile but have decided to jump in with both feet. My name is Karen and I've been an administrative assistant for 23+ years and for the last 10 years, I've supported C-level executives.
I started looking into the whole virtual assistant profession a few years ago -- I was excited about it but never did anything with it. With the slumping economy, in late November, I was laid off from my position as an Executive Assistant to the CEO of a construction company. Talk about shocked!
I've applied to a few positions but nothing has clicked -- there just isn't much out there. I was widowed in 2007, so it's just my son and I and I really want/need to spend more time at home with him. I decided now is the time to change gears. Once I made the decision to go for it, things have just fallen into place -- I really think it's the right decision for my family and I'm quite excited about this new job path.
I love being an Executive Assistant and think being a virtual assistant is right up my alley. I'm getting all of the details squared away and hope to launch my business, officially, in the next month or so. From 1991-1999, I was self employed so I know the ropes -- just need to get out there and make things happen
Thanks for letting me join you -- this board has been a wealth of information for me already and I look forward to participating more.
Karen
