Default Hello all my fellow VAs
My name is Melissa and I no idea how I cam across this forum, however I am VERY glad i did. I offer virtual assistant services at a low cost at the moment due to being new and wanting to establish clients. Is this a good idea?

I am a SAHM of two children one son who was born in August and a daughter who is 4 years old.

I do anything from creating flyers to becoming a virtual assistant on websites.

I am very happy to be here

Nope, low-balling is a bad idea for a couple of reasons. 1) It will be more difficult to raise your rates in the future with current clients and 2) clients will value you less is you cost less than the standard rates for your industry.

We're glad you found us and look forward to getting to know you better.

Lily is correct with her responses.

Low-balling is short-changing yourself.

To add onto Lily's #2, your value will be perceived as low and therefore you will attract one type of client...one that won't pay, can't pay or will nickle and dime you to death.

Price yourself within the industry standards and let people know how much your skills are really worth.

I agree. You offer a valuable service and should be paid accordingly. The type of clients that you want to have will understand that.

At one time I thought of doing the same thing but decided against due to the reasons listed above.

Welcome! I agree with the other warnings, I did the same thing and I'm very lucky I came out of it with a solid client who was alright with me raising my prices (significantly) when I moved from freelance sites to my own business.

I agree with all of the above. Set your rates and know that what you're offering is of great value. A lot of people simply cannot do what we do on a daily basis and do it well. Best wishes with your biz!
