Default Greetings from Ohio
Hello all! Long story short, I was laid off in August, 2009 and was going to start a VA business then, but ended up having the opportunity to buy a small antiques store and took over in September, 2009. While the store is holding its own, it isn't paying my bills yet, so I want to also offer VA options to hopefully be able to keep the store going full time. Hoping to find LOTS of information here on what I need to do to get started on the VA business end!

Liz

Welcome Liz. I am sure you will like it here and find it very helpful. I am in Ky and fairly new to being a Va also and it can be overwhelming at times but there is a ton of helpful information here. Good luck to you!

This site has been most valuable to me. I am just starting out also, just got my website up and running, placed my first ad online and secured my first client, all within a week. Good luck to you and welcome.

Welcome Liz,

I am a neighbor in PA. Which part of Ohio are you from and where is your store? I have a group that I travel with and that sounds right up our alley. Best of luck in your new venture.

Ok. So makes 4 of us right here from Ohio. There is an Ohio group and they discussed a meet up, but no one ever did anything about it. I think we need to get something together if it is not to inconvenient.

Rhonda, Couldn't help but notice your greetings and needing to reply. As an original buckeye, from Dayton, Ohio and now a Georgia peach! I have a suggestion...I know there are a lot more than 4 in Ohio. Go to the IVAA group who helps formulate connections with other VA's and helps you get one off the ground. Then go to VANA and ask them how many are from Ohio or look in the directory. You need to research and then invite a group to a meetup ...that is how the Georgia one got started...and it is working. Good Luck

Hi! Welcome Liz.
I'm a Buckeye too! I live in New Philadelphia and have been a VA since late 2004 (just didn't know it was called that!)

What part of Ohio are you from? Do you have any experience as a VA or other service provider?

Have a great day!

WOW! Thanks for the great welcome. I really appreciate it. I'll try to answer all the questions:
  • I live in Cuyahoga Falls in northeast OH. That's about 30 miles southeast of Cleveland and a suburb of Akron.
  • As far as what I have done so far VA-wise, I have done a lot of research (on-line and off-line) and over analyzed what I should name the business .
  • My antiques shop is Falls Antiques & Collectibles on Front Street in Cuyahoga Falls (www.fallsantiquesohio.com). My hours are Mon-Sat 11 a.m.-6 p.m. There are 6 other shops on the same block, so if you have a group coming in there's plenty to see! However, the other shops are only open Tues-Sat 12-5.
  • I would definitely be interested in a meet-up!
  • My background is secretarial. I worked in an office setting for 33 years, mostly in a secretarial capacity. Also did time as a Benefits Coordinator and Training Coordinator.
  • Right now I'm trying to find out if I can add VA services to my current vendor's license/tax ID, or if I have to get all new stuff , find out what other legal hoops I have to jump through as far as contracts, fees I should charge, etc.
Thanks again for the welcome!

Liz
