The forum as been looking for a leader for the MN group and I offered to give it a try. I would hate to see the group go away!

I would love to get to know the other Minnesota VAs!

Does anyone have some ideas of how best to proceed and bring our group together? Maybe a monthly chat about a couple specific topics? I am very open to suggestions and ideas!!

Hi! When I was part of this group about a yr ago, we did a couple of face-to-face meetings. I think it helped to actually meet with people in person. Although it was difficult finding a meeting point if everyone is spread out in distance. I think monthly chat would be great to start since I don't see that many members here. I think everyone has something valuable to share and learn.

I totally agree with you on all counts! Where do you live? I am in Shoreview (just north of DT Minneapolis).

I'm in southern MN, near the IA border. I'm surprised nobody else is on here yet responding.
Just out of curiosity, what do you do for networking (getting your business out there )?
When I was here more often before I joined my local Chamber of Commerce, I had some marketing material sent out and I was a part of social networks. I had a break and am back now.

I'm in MN, in Burnsville actually. I am very new to this, in fact I'm not officially a VA yet. Right now I am completely a course in bookkeeping and hoping to become certified. I am also only here temporarily, as my family will be moving to Atlanta at the end of the year, and I am really hoping to make this my career when we get there. Crossing fingers and praying hard. I know I'm here temporarily but if you are all meeting up I would love to join you to say HI. What I am really hoping for is to meet anybody else who doing Bookkeeping. I am doing pretty well with my course, but I am nervous. A confidence booster would be great.

For networking I have stumbled on a couple things. I was laid off prior to starting my business and a few people I used to work with started their own companies so I keep in touch with them and have gained business that way. I got my information out to a realtor friend who I have worked for and gotten several referrals from her. I never intentionally targeted realtors, but it ended up a good fit. Many of them don't have time to do marketing or any admin type work as they are so busy selling and seem to live in their cars. Right now I am also working for a non-profit . . . they really like paying only for the time they use as they are on a tight budget. The VA calculator really speaks to them from a savings standpoint! If you search Minnesota non-profit jobs you can find a lot of people looking for admin help and may find a fit for you!

Regarding the book keeping - interesting thing is a guy I just started working for has a gal do all his bookkeeping. He is in construction / general contractor and owns several rental properties. He is really busy so no time for marketing, books, etc. You might also want to check out non-profits. The one I work for contracts out for all their accounting / bookkeeping services. I think there is a lot of opportunity for you! How much school do you have left? Super good luck!! I

I really just a little bit left. It's a study at my own pace kind of course, and I am pretty sure I will be done with it pretty quick.

I saw this Group and wanted to say Hi. I do a lot of work in and use to live in Southern Minnesota and would like to be able to connect to other VA's that are in Mn for when I am there.

Miranda it sounds like you are well on your way. I have been a Bookkeeper/Accountant for the past 10 years. It's a fun way to spend your day if you like numbers. If you have any questions I would be happy to try and lend a helping hand.

I was actually just wondering, if there are any other VA's bookkeepers in the area, who may be interested in a meet up. I would love to sit down face to face with someone and be able ask 20 questions, especially the ones that maybe a little ignorant. Or even if anyone would be willing to talk on the phone with me?
