I am a very new VA, not yet launched my venture, but thinking seriously about it in the UK. I would like to know, hope you don't mind me asking, how any of you get paid for the work that you do. Do you invoice, use PayPal on your websites, by cheque (until they discontinue them)?

I send invoices to my clients who can pay by card from my website, bank transfer, cheque or Paypal.

I send invoices which then get paid into my bank account. I do offer Paypal and have been paid via Paypal as well.

Hi Drusilla, Sorry for the late reply - hopefully better late than never! I issue invoices to my clients on a monthly basis (either 15th or 30th of each month) depending on whether they are Monthly Retainer or Hourly Rate clients. For UK and French-based clients, they have a choice of BACS/Virement (French bank transfer), PayPal or cheque (still popular in France!). The rest of Europe and International clients have PayPal or money transfer. One thing to remember with PayPal in particular is that there are costs associated with operating an account with them and you need to give some thought as to whether these costs will be borne by you or your customer. My Terms and Conditions state that any bank transfer/exchange charges will be borne by the client.

I use PayPal because it has a number of advantages. The name is trusted, PayPal checks the credit rating of both parties before approving, and you can select the currency you work in.
