Default Dreamweaver & KompoZer compatibility

Can anyone help me with this:

If I create web pages in Dreamweaver (test version valid 1 month) will I be able to work (open, correct, etc.) those pages later in KompoZer? Are they compatible?

Or is it better that I start working with KompoZer from the start? Thanks.

As long as you're not using anything that is completely dependent upon Dreamweaver. I'm not a Dreamweaver user myself (I'm still using GoLive CS), so I'm not sure if it has it's own idiosyncrasies like FrontPage (I'm guessing it doesn't, however).

Your best bet would be to start out with Kompozer and continue to use it. Chances are you will learn a lot more about coding by using Kompozer. Another option is TopStyle which integrates CSS.

You should not have any problems using Dreamweaver and then Kompozer. I started with Kompozer and then found the Dreamweaver one month free trial. I switched to Dreamweaver. After a couple of days tinkering around with it I went back to Kompozer and finished my site.

That was my experience and I didn't find any problems. Kompozer has both CSS and HTML.

OMG, I am using both right now as we speak. I use Kompozer for more of the WYSIWYG and HTML aspect and Dreamweaver for CSS. I go back and forth all the time and Dreamweaver even asks if you want to save changes done in another application, if you are working both at the same time. That way you can make changes in one and have it apply to the other.

As long as you are comfortable with both you can easy switch between the two without difficulties. It is really just a personal preference on which you prefer for what tasks.

Since the web is based on HTML, it doesn't really matter which program you use since HTML is HTML.

Ok, some programs (most notably Frontpage) add a lot of unnecessary code that may cause some compatibility issues but nothing too serious.

You should have no problem switiching between Kompozer and DW. Until I settled upon my program of choice (Coda, Mac-only) i tested Dreamweaver, Kompozer, BBEdit, Notepad, iWeb and a whole host of others.

My advice is to thoroughly learn HTML and then you can be sure that the code you see on the screen produces the result you require. You will then be able to build your sites (including CSS) in the most basic of text editors without ever having to purchase software...although Kompozer is free so is a good option anyway
