Default Your picture on website?
Hi all,

Sorry if there is another thread somewhere else.

I'm in the process of doing my website and wondered what peoples views were of having a picture of yourself on the site.

Thanks

Sam

Hi Sam,

I do have my "mug shot" on my site on my "About SVS and Me page." I wanted to put a face to my business so PCs knew they weren't just dealing with some nameless, faceless entity. Nope, it's not a professional photo, but it is me...warts 'n all.

I have a picture of myself and my sister (hilde and susanne) on the front page. Not sure if it helps at all, but I do get very positive feedback.

Hi Sam,

I have a photo of me up on my website. I think having a photo on your site allows your visitors to get to know who you are in a sense. Kind of like putting a face with the name and the business. Especially in a business where what we do is primarily virtual, offering just a tiny bit of who you are (in addition to what you can do to help them) goes a long way. Some do that with a photo, others even post videos of themselves on the website.

Thanks ladies!

I've been thinking exactly the same about putting a name to a face etc and to be honest, I think I would be put off looking for a VA if they didnt have a photo of themselves.

Thanks again!

Sam

Totally agree to add your picture! I think it's one of the most important items to have because chances are you'll never work with your clients face to face and they want to be able to picture you when working with you.
I suggest having professional photos done, even if it's just 1-2 poses. Or, check out http://www.lookbetteronline.com/ - they are mainly for dating websites but you can use it for business too and it's very reasonable.

Good luck!

Lisa

Yep, my photos there. I was able to get some great photos done in conjuction with my husband getting his done. I think it's important to have your photo on your site just as everyone else has said it adds a face to the business.

And if you can swing it get some professional photos, locally we have some great creative schools that offer photography classes and I know the students are often looking for people to photograph in exchange for using in their portfolios and the cost of development - so if might be a way to look at getting photos done on the cheap.

I sure do have my picture on my site! Like everyone else has said, it really help people put a face to the person that they are interacting with virtually. Everyone in some way, shape, or form wants to have that interpersonal connection/communication with the people they work with and I think it is kind of hard to do so without seeing them. My fiancee happens to be a professional photographer so it was pretty easy to do

Word of advice whether you choose the picture yourself or if you have someone do it, definitely make sure that the background of your picture is not distracting. It takes away from the subject, you!

I do have a photo of me on my site for many of the reasons stated below. I also got some great advice from my PR guru and coach to get a professional photo taken. The reason is the quality of the photo and that it just is more professional. I took their advice, had one done and could not be more pleased.

I think it is important for everyone to see the "face" behind the business especially being virtual.
