Question Wordpress Question
I have created my website (and will hit the Publish button any time now LOL) using Sitebuilder. I also have a Wordpress blog through Yahoo Small Business who is hosting my site. I put a link on every page of my website linking to my blog. What I'd like to do is put a link on the blog back to my website. I'm using the TwentyTen theme and there is a button under the banner picture that says "Home". It just reloads the page though.

Is there any way to change the text of that button and use it as a link back to my website? Or any other way to link to my website? I can't find this info anywhere in the settings or anywhere else.

Semi-related, this setup does not really accomplish what I wanted, which is the blog to be a page on my website (although its url is mysitename/blog, it's not really a page on my site, if that makes sense). Next time, I'll build the site on Wordpress (after I learn it!!! LOL). I've just spent a ton of time building the site and don't really want to switch over now.

There is a wordpress plugin called Page Links To http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/page-links-to/ which allows you to point WordPress pages or posts to a URL of your choosing. Good for setting up navigational links to non-WP sections of your site or to off-site resources. Follow the instructions to download the plugin and you can set up the navigation menu to indicate, 'Website' or some such title and then link your website to your blog.

I'm not familiar with your WP template...was this something you purchased or was it a free download? If you purchased, chances are there is a forum or a support area specific to that theme company. I learned so much about my own template from the template forum through posting questions.

If you want to change the text of the button, you may need to look in the Appearance section in your dashboard of the WP theme to see if there is a place to rename the tabs. Poke around your theme options and see if there is a way to make that change. You may need to post a support question if you cannot find it.

Stacey,

In Wordpress 3 you have the ability to play with your Nav menu easily.
Under "appearance" click on "menu"
There should be a menu set up already
Look for the section to the left of the menu list that says "Custom Links"
Add the URL to your site and name it whatever you want. Click "add"- Then on the right move the link to where you want it to show on your nav bar.

If you're all confused now, or you get stuck. Give me a holler and I'll help more.

Janine,
Twenty-Ten is the default theme that comes with WP3 ;-)

Thanks so much for your reply, Janine. I installed the plugin by following the directions in your link. I did exactly what it said to add my site URL. However, nothing seems to have changed. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Christina, I'm not sure I'm using WP3. Where does it show this? I chose TwentyTen myself out of available choices given. I did what you said and there were no menus. I created one and added my site as a custom link. Nothing has changed yet but I've noticed it takes a few minutes for things to happen. Where is the menu supposed to appear?

Another thing that has me confused about this is that I've tried to change the default picture banner at the top of the screen to a .jpg of the banner at the top of my website so that it looks more cohesive since the blog is not really a part of my website (although I want it to be so that the content of my site keeps changing and is not static). I get an error although it is the right size. How do you change that?

OK, the menu is working. I am going to add links to the pages in my site. This is awesome! Thanks, Christina!

Now to work on changing that banner!

Update for the day crowd.

Does anyone know why I can't change the banner picture on my WP blog?

Sorry Stacey- just got a chance to get back here

Have you changed it using the "header" section in the dashboard?

You are welcome to take this to email and I can hop into your dashboard to see if i can find the problem.

Yes, that's exactly where I went.

I'd love to take you up on that offer but I am at my my full- time job right now and won't be at my computer until after 9PM ET tonight. I'll have to play with it more then.

I want to change the banner anyway but I'm still questioning if my blog is considered part of my website at all as far as search engines go. It is sitename/blog but created separately with the 2 different tools.
