Default WordPress.org - Do You Need to Know HTML?
I'm looking into this on my own too, but thought if anyone else knew off the bat, that would help!

I'm attempting to figure out an easy way for someone to maintain a website - they already have a domain name & it's currently hosted too. But, they don't know HTML & in order for their site to be udpated, they have to enlist the help of someone who does. (well, using Frontpage or something else - which isn't that hard, but they still don't understand either.)

My question is, I was considering suggesting installing the WP software on their webhost server & going from there. However, I'm a little confused - when using the WP.ORG version, can they make updates w/o knowing HTML at all? Will it be like using the blog version? (WYSIWYG?)

Anyway, if anyone can shed some light, that would be awesome. I'm going to still read through the WP.ORG site, but figured there was someone who knows this stuff already.

TIA if you respond - I appreciate it!

I came back to post that I think I figured out that "no html knowledge" is needed. I posted this to a diff forum too, & someone replied over there as such, confirming what I was thinking.

Also, after 15 or 20mins of reading through the WP.org site, I think I found a page that sort of answered my question too, so in case anyone else cares, here ya go: http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress

Hopefully I'm operating under the correct assumptions!

Hi there. It seems like you've already answered your own question but I'll just second that WP can make a great CMS - it will allow easy updates of textual content without HTML knowledge; and it sounds like that's just what you had in mind.

I have different WordPress blogs that hosted by WordPress (wp.com) and on my own domain (wp.org). There is virtually no difference in creating posts and pages and other admin tasks, other than.com hosted blogs will be automatically updated to the latest WordPress software, and if you are hosting your own WordPress site, you (or someone with sufficient technical knowledge) will have to manually update the software.

That said, I haven't upgraded to the latest WordPress software on my own website yet.

HTML knowledge isn't needed to use WordPress, but it can help when making changes to the appearance of the site. It's definitely not required though.

I would highly recommend you install WordPress on your own web host and "play" with it before attempting to do so for a client. You'll feel much more confident after you have experimented with it yourself. You can see what options are there by default, and what is needed in order to make posts, etc.

Good luck!

I find the easiest online website builders on the net are at www.weebly.com and www.doodlekit.com. These are just "drag and drop" and I use them for clients who want to do their own updating after I've built the site.
