Default Wordpress & GoDaddy
Hi Everyone,

New Wordpress sites (http://invisiblebusinesssolutions.com and http://notaryspokane.com) hosted on GoDaddy were working fine up until a week ago when they started to load very slow and returned timing out errors when loading. Can someone please help me with troublshooting/fixing what might be causing the errors? They do not seem to have any consistency; pages will load one minutes, then won't load the next. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Gina,

Because GoDaddy sometimes does not play well with others. I am not sure what is happening but you may want to call customer support to see if there is any changes that could have caused this. I too noticed it was really slow...even on the backend. I did an update and change of theme to one client and it seemed to take forever to show the changes.

You could also try loading a cache plugin on the sites but I am not sure that would even help.

Hi Lee,

Thanks for your input. I updated one of the sites to WP 3.3.1 last night and am seeing what affect that makes. I've noticed also that logging in to the hosting pages for GoDaddy can sometimes lag, so maybe they can give some advice there (will certainly give them a call).

I did load a cache plugin last week to make static pages and at first thought it was working, but now am not sure. Think I will reload the plugin after updating WP and see if that makes a difference. Will let you know how it goes.

I have set up 3 websites with GoDaddy Website Tonight and find the support quite responsive but I've been frustrated with the seemingly more-than-occasional slowness. I am trying to decide on the best hosting package since I'm moving into hosting/reselling as a major focus, but I can't figure out which is the best. I'll try other forums, but will appreciate hearing more about your ongoing GoDaddy experience.

I've been trying to decide the best way to register my domain, and had considered GoDaddy and then actually building the site on Wordpress. Given the issues above, I wonder if it's better just to host the site through Wordpress and leave the middle man (godaddy) out??

I'm really still trying to figure out what WordPress is all about. What I'm looking for is the best way to represent myself as a reseller so i can offer web services to clients directly from me rather than them first contracting through GoDaddy or other.

If you are talking about using WordPress.com to build your site, don't do it. While WordPress.com is free to use, they could shut down your site whenever they want and you would lose everything. It is never a good idea to build your business website on free sites like WordPress.com or Blogger.com. I've seen many instances where people built up fantastic websites using Blogger.com only to have them shut down for one reason or another and everything they put into building the website was lost.

It's much better for you to own your site by registering a domain name, purchasing a hosting account, and then installing WordPress. If you don't want to use WordPress to build your site, you can use some other type of site building program.

As for GoDaddy hosting, I used them a long time ago and then moved to better hosting. I still register my domain names with GoDaddy, but I use either HostGator or Site5 for my hosting.

Hi Everyone,

Wanted to give you an update on how my Wordpress.org/GoDaddy issue panned out. Frustrated with not being able to resolve the issue myself, I called GoDaddy to see if they were able to see an issue that I couldn't. The rep I spoke with was very helpful. We looked at when the site had been down/slow, when their servers had problems, and in the end discovered that that it was a compatibility issue between the Windows server that I had selected to host on and the Wordpress software. It turns out that Windows servers and Wordpress don't like eachother. GoDaddy moved the site to host on a Linux server instead (only took a couple hours to fully move) and haven't had issues since (knock on wood).

If you are hosting with GoDaddy and having any site issues, I would recommend calling them when you have any site loading/response issues. Even if they cannot resolve the problem (because of your software), they can point you in the right direction for a fix.

Godaddy will drive you nuts for hosting. I recommend getting on a hosting company that has Cpanel. ASAP!

I am DEFINITELY looking for an alternative for my website and hosting. I have been using Wordpress and GoDaddy for the past year; and like earlier posts, have noticed a significant lag time when loading my page. I tried Firefox; Google Chrome and IE; and they were all slow. I called GoDaddy and they recommended I update the Wordpress to 3.3.1; WELL......I did that and now my site has CRASHED!! It's dead... fatally dead.
I called GoDaddy BACK and all they could tell me to do was to try and re-install the Wordpress update and WAIT 24 hours!!?!?!?!? What the heck is up with that?!?

Well, luckily I have a very VERY helpful VA friend who is such a WIZ at this; she's agreed to take a look at my problem and see if she can fix it. She's a wizard!!! Let's keep our fingers crossed she can work her magic.

On the other hand. WHO can recommend someone else for websites and hosting that doesn't require so much constant maintenance?
Any suggestions would be appreciated!!
Thanks!
