Default Wordpress and Bluehost
I use Bluehost for my hosting. They provide Wordpress as part of the package and I would like to create my web site in wordpress instead of using the CSS template I now have. Does anyone know if I can do this....easily?

I have Bluehost and my current VA site is WordPress (I also have a bunch of XHTML/CSS sites ). With BH installing is very easy to do! Just use Simple Scripts or Fantastico to install. Remember to write down login info and the URL info to your install. Taking a screenshot works too.

Hope this helped a bit,

Thanks Jules. I have Wordpress installed so I guess its just a matter of building the site there. I've looked at your site along with others and really like the looks of the Wordpress themes plus I'm not real good with XHTMS/CSS...not that I'm any better with Wordpress.

I use Wordpress a real lot now and it is my recommendation to any client seeking to set up a new website. They like that I can set it up for them, including a template of their choice and then hand it over to them so they can login and update as they wish. Although some still just want me to do it. If you need any other help, just sing out. I've been using Wordpress for about 5 or so years now.

Kathie and Jules, I currently have my site live on Bluehost so do I just build it in a wordpress template and give it the same url as my current site so it will overwrite it? Sorry to be so dense on this.

Great job! Mine is a WordPress template, but it looks nothing like the template now except the menu a bit. If you find a theme/template that you like a lot, and don't feel you would need to customize it, then go for it and download it. Then all you have to do is add your pages, etc.

WordPress is actually based on X/HTML, CSS, and php, but don't let that intimidate you - jump in and see what you can discover with a template that is close to what you want. One thing when looking for a template theme, make sure it is compatible with your current version of WordPress; that will save a lot of headaches.

I actually dinked around with WP a few years ago, but until I decided to use it for my current VA site, I didn't delve into it too deeply. Yes, I have X/HTML, CSS, and php knowledge, but we're here to help if you get "stuck."

And let's not forget our resident WP guru, Christina.

Don't be "skeered," have fun with it!

Jenny, I wasn't sure if you were aware there's an event here at VAF on this very topic next week! Here's more info - Virtual Assistant Forums Hosts Free Event for Members: Your WordPress Website (Oct 23, 2009)

Before you do this, I would move your current site into it's own folder on BH or a folder on your computer as a "backup" in case you ever need it; even though you might have it in your design software on your computer. Just a little extra "insurance."

Then you can give it the same URL.

Hi Jenny,

In my opinion, WordPress is the way to go. I've been using it for about 3 years and just love it.

If you need any pointers or guidance, let me know. I'd be happy to help out

I don't believe the index.php produced by wordpress will overwrite your site, i.e. the index.htm (or index.html) will still show up as the preferred home page. So you'll need to shift the html pages to a folder for safe keeping and remove them from the root folder on the server so that the php files show up.
