Oh wow! I'm so excited by all the responses here! Thanks for all the encouragement. I'm going to have to block out some time to make that call to my host. But first I'm going to check out the video on Youtube by Tina as mentioned above.

You all are so awesome!

Thanks,
Shellye

Fiona,

You do not need to be a developer to use WordPress.

Check out Tina's videos she provided in this thread. Headway
Themes
is a good WordPress and option and allows for some customization.

Thanks. I've already found a couple of, what I think may be, useful sites. I'll post them here if they pan out.

Thanks

Just a quick update. I worked on the wordpress this last weekend and finally figured it all out. I had to create it as a sub-directory and will need to figure out how to make it my main directory at some point, but support for my domain host is not easy to get a hold of at the time I actually need them.

Anyway, I was making it way harder than it really was. LOL.

Shellye,

That's good news! Thanks for sharing.

There is a sense of true accomplish often felt when getting past the obstacles. I found that the lesson helped when working on client projects in which I was faced with similar obstacles.

I'm sorry to hear your host is not readily available. Sometimes posting a ticket is faster than making a phone call!

Good luck!

Janine

Janine,

Thanks for all the encouragement. Without the help from all of you experienced VA's on this board it would be so easy to just give up. I'm so glad I found this site.

Kudos to all of you.

Hi Ladies,

I am having the same problem as Shellye had with the wp-config.php file. I viewed Tina Marie's youtube video, and it is very helpful. I have decided to do the steps she suggested through my host IPage.com. I was able to get successfully to step 5 in the tutorial, but then the error message appeared after I clicked Install Wordpress: The following error occurred:
  • Installation directory already exists. Please confirm installation to an existing directory on the previous form.
Does anyone know what the error message above means? I left the installation directory blank as instructed, so I wonder if I should uninstall Filezilla and the previous Wordpress download I completed prior to doing it the way Tina suggested. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Lynn Mallory

Hi Lynn,'
I'm glad my tutorial helped. To fix the error did you delete the previous installation of Wordpress? I only ask because I'm sure someone else is going to stumble across this same issue and would love to know how you fixed it.

Hi all,
I had trouble with wordpress as well and went directly to webs.com it's awesome so far at least for me starting out...I have my own blog and forums there. I don't know if as I learn more I'll decide to change up but honestly thank God it was simple for me!!! If anyone has any questions about it I'd be more than happy to help out

Hi Tina,

The solution that I discovered was that in addition to leaving the installation directory field blank, I had to check the box below it that stated, "yes, install to this directory even if the directory already exists."

Prior to doing this, I deleted the Wordpress files from my computer as well.

However, I have stumbled upon yet another bump in the road. When I click the visit site button on my Wordpress dashboard, I don't see the theme I selected. I see the message that states ampmassistants.com is under development. Do you know how I can fix this?

Thanks so much,

Lynn

Lynn,

Even though you installed WP, your directory may have an index.html file in it. If you delete or rename it, your WP installation will show. index.html/default.html overrides index.php.
